A Nostalgic Typing Experience at Kohe’s 1st Anniversary Event

Today, I had the pleasure of attending Kohe’s “Type Your Memories with Us” event, held in celebration of their 1st anniversary. This unique and free event runs until Kohe’s closing hours today, and I couldn’t have asked for a more memorable experience on a rainy day in Hyderabad. Here’s a look at my time at this charming coffee shop and why you should stop by before the day ends.

Warm Welcome and a Step Back in Time

As soon as I walked into Kohe, I was warmly greeted by the friendly staff and the event’s facilitator, Faisal Ali Khan. The cozy ambiance of Kohe, combined with the sight of several colorful vintage typewriters from the past, immediately transported me to a different era. Ali, with his knowledge and passion for these classic machines, was eager to help me get started. His excitement about the event was contagious, and it set the tone for what would be a fun, educational experience.

My Experience with a Hermes Baby Typewriter

Among the various typewriters on display, I gravitated toward a beautiful olive-colored Hermes Baby typewriter. It was fascinating to try this machine, which had a distinct personality compared to the modern keyboards we use every day. Ali explained the intricacies of maintaining vintage typewriters, from the mechanics of the capslock to understanding the manual carriage return to move to the next line. These little complexities made me appreciate how far we’ve come with the modern QWERTY keyboard.

Typing without spellcheck and learning to press the spacebar hard enough were surprisingly challenging. But that’s what made the experience so immersive—it felt like learning a new skill, with every click and clack of the keys connecting me to the past.

Creative Postcards: A Personal Touch

Another highlight was the opportunity to create personalized postcards. Kohe had beautiful postcards available, and you could either handwrite a message or cut out a piece of your typed paper and glue it onto the card. They even offer to mail the postcards to your address! This small but thoughtful touch added to the nostalgia of the event, making the experience even more special.

Unlimited Typing and Typewriters

What I loved most about the event was the freedom to explore. There was no limit on the number of pages you type or the number of typewriters you try. Each machine had its own quirks, and experimenting with them was both fun and educational. It’s a fantastic way to understand the evolution of the modern keyboard, especially for those who have never experienced a typewriter before.

A Perfect Pairing: Cacao Shot and the Rain

After typing away for a while, I took a break and tried Kohe’s cacao shot. It was absolutely delicious—rich, warm, and the perfect complement to the rainy weather outside. Sitting in Kohe with a cup of coffee, listening to the gentle rain, and enjoying the tactile experience of typing on a vintage typewriter made for a truly unforgettable day.

Why You Shouldn’t Miss This Event

If you haven’t visited Kohe yet today, I highly recommend stopping by before they close. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a coffee lover, or just curious about typewriters, this event is a perfect blend of nostalgia, creativity, and community. Plus, it’s completely free! The atmosphere, the knowledge shared by Ali, and the fun of typing out your memories will stay with you long after the event is over.

So, grab a cup of coffee, enjoy the rain, and immerse yourself in a little slice of history. I promise you won’t regret it.

Kohe is celebrating its 1st anniversary in style, and I’m so glad I was part of it. Here’s to many more years of memories and great coffee!
